As I'm all for alternative energy resources, I have a concern about these windmill structures effecting the ocean swell - is this valid?
Good waves are hard enough to come by as it is.
With our new "beach project" in the works with Army Corps I would hate to see our beloved sport further jeopardized....

I've been living out of state for years and would really appreciate it if anyone could post a pic of these windmills? I'd really like to see them.

Thanks

glad to see windmills a topic at this site. However, I'm surprised at how few prominent citizens of Nassau County have commented on the proposed windmill project for Jones Beach. I am very much opposed to putting windmills at Jones given that Jones Beach is a nature sanctuary and place of unparalelled beauty. Since no one can build out at Jones, and that's what makes it so beautiful and unique, why muddy the water with windmills? This seems to be another way to pollute the environment. Can't one place be left alone in all of Nassau County? And isn't this what Robert Moses intended? It is a travesty to build out at that beach. What is going on with our politicians that they are suddenly silent? It looks to me as if we can't count on democrats or republicans to comment on this issue. Normally, you would expect them to generate alot of wind. I can suggest other places for windmills: north shore, shoreham (remember shoreham?), the place where the Andrea Doria went down (there's wind there, too), and other sites on Long Island Sound. Why hasn't anybody said "Whoa!" about development at Jones Beach? Why can't we have one undeveloped space, and leave nature's last stand alone? Nassau has quite a number of politicians. Where are they?

Is the sole intention of these offshore windmills for them to serve as an alternate energy source?
